About the Pleasant Valley Lions

The Camarillo - Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club has been supporting the communities of Camarillo and Somis for 60 years, since 1945.
Every year the club raises approximately $60,000 through various fund raising activities, with all the funds going to support numerous charitable organizations and causes.
  • A very large portion of the club's donations stay within the Camarillo - Somis community and support many local organizations and causes such as:
  • Annual scholarship awards to graduating seniors at Adolfo Camarillo High School and Rio Mesa High School (four $1,000 scholarships awarded in June 2003).
  • Annual donations in varying amounts to support the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.
  • Annual donation of $100 each to 50 needy children for school clothes.
  • Ongoing program to cover the cost of eye exams and glasses for needy Camarillo - Somis school children.
  • Annual donation to support the Ventura County Academic Decathlon program ($1,500 donated in 2003).
  • Annual donation to the Camarillo Hospice Tree of Life ($2,000 donated in 2002).
  • Donations in varying amounts to the Camarillo Ranch Foundation.
  • Recent donation to assist a blind Camarillo student attending college in Santa Barbara.
  • Recent donation to assist a hearing impaired Camarillo student attending college in San Diego.
  • Recent donation to support a team of Breast Cancer Walkers from Camarillo.

The Camarillo - Somis Pleasant Valley Lions Club also sponsors and funds a number of community events throughout the year. Among these are:

  • The annual 4th of July Fireworks show at Freedom Park in Camarillo.
  • The annual Gold Coast Wrestling Tournament at Adolfo Camarillo High School in December.
  • The annual PV Lions - ROP Car Show in May.
  • A "Flag Day" for 3rd graders in all Camarillo and Somis elementary schools.
  • PV Lion members visit every 3rd grade class to talk about the American Flag and present each student with their own American Flag.
  • The annual 5K run and 1K kids run at the Camarillo Ranch in September.
  • An "award winning" float in the annual Camarillo Christmas Parade.

In addition to the many local charitable activities and programs, the club also donates funds to support numerous large organizations such as:

  • Braille Institute
  • City of Hope
  • Guide Dogs of America
  • Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc.
  • Lions Sight and Hearing Center
  • Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic
  • Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Association of Santa Barbara, Inc.
  • S.E.E. International (Surgical Eye Expeditions)
  • Aeromedicos of Santa Barbara
  • Ear of the Lion, Inc (The Hearing Foundation)
  • Lions Clubs Student Speakers Foundation
  • Vision Loss Support Services
  • Southern California Lions Eye Institute

All the above are supported by money raised through various FUND RAISERS
conducted by the PV Lions. Major fund raising projects include:

  • Managing & Operating Fair Parking at the Ventura County Fair.
  • Selling Lion Burgers, Hot Dogs, & Corn on the Cob at the Tierra Rejada Fall Harvest Festival.
  • The PV Lions Golf Tournament.
  • Lions Club White Cane Days.
  • Selling food, drinks, and other items at the 4th of July Fireworks show.
  • Numerous special barbecues conducted throughout the year.
