Mission of Lions Club International
The Pleasant Valley Lions Club is one of more than 45,000 Lions Clubs in 196 countries or geographic regions belonging to Lions Clubs International. Lions International objectives include: creating and fostering a spirit of understanding among peoples of the world, promoting the principles of good government and good citizenship and to encourage service minded men and women to serve their communities.

Focus
The Pleasant Valley Lions Club Scholarships are being made available to students wishing to further their education. The applicant must exhibit a positive attitude, demonstrate service to others and will be graduating with an overall 2.50 to 3.50 G.P.A. (unweighted).

Amount of Scholarship Funds
$3,000

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for a LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP, an applicant must be a graduating senior, have earned a GED within the past 6 months, or will have earned a GED by June 10, 2008. They must have attended their respective school for the entire 2007-2008 school year and live within one of the following Zip Codes: 93010, 93012 and 93066.

Selection Criteria
Scholarship applications must be typed with All of the following criteria being addressed and submitted for judging. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The areas of emphasis and weight for judging are indicated by percentages.
Community Service – 30%
Work experience – 10%
Completeness and overall appearance of the application – 10%
Written Essay – 25%
Future education and career goals – 5%
Academic standing documentation ( copy of transcript ) – 5%
Two (2) Letters of Recommendation - 15%
Letters must be addressed to the Pleasant Valley Lions Club.
Letters are to reflect on the character and integrity of applicant.
One (1) Letter (maximum) from school related personnel (teachers, coaches and counselors).
Letters from the following: youth groups, work, service organizations and neighbors, etc. are acceptable.

Application Submission Deadline
Applications must be submitted to either the student’s school counselor or career center technician by April 28, 2008 and received by the Pleasant Valley Lions’ Scholarship Chairman by May 1, 2008.
